Hi, my name is Maggie Attridge and I am a sophomore journalism and government and politics double major at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am also in my second year in the Media, Self, and Society program at the university. Part of the requirements of this two-year program is to complete an eportfolio- a “web-based, student-generated collections of learning artifacts (papers, multimedia projects, speeches, images, etc.) and related reflections, focused on learning and growth…Buil[t] over time and across boundaries, linking courses and disciplines, co-curricular and life experiences." This website serves as a platform where I collate a collection of reflections, experiences, and some artifacts to highlight my growth in your practicum and in your career this semester. I chose to use my positions in the University of Maryland Student Government Association (UMD SGA) as my practicum. I have two community based positions in SGA: Cambridge Community Representative and Coordinator of Recruitment and Retention. For my legislative position, I work for myself and it is generally more outreach to the community, participating in two SGA committees (Diversity and Inclusion and Sexual Misconduct Prevention), writing legislation for said committees, and participating in our General Body Meetings. For my coordination position, I work under the Speaker of the Legislature and I am on legislative leadership. There, I help run the general body meetings once a week, run the entire outreach/recruitment program for SGA (tabling at events, running interviews, emailing prospective candidates, and making new legislators feel welcome), and I get to be one of the few legislators that helps the student body president make executive decisions if something comes up.
